Green Tea Weight Loss

The prospect of green tea and weight loss seems to be floating around in the news commonly these days. More and more people appear to be drinking green tea due its tremendous benefits including the loss of weight. Green tea is one of the prime factors for increasing metabolism, stops the absorption of fat, reduces the daily appetite, and green tea is a low source of calories.

Increased Metabolism

In a day’s time, green tea usually increases an average person’s metabolism by around 4%. The high concentration of polyphenols in green tea helps to oxidize fat and encourage thermogenesis. Thermogenesis in the body is the rate which the body burns calories. Green tea results in an increase of energy which raises the metabolism, therefore, more weight is lost than normal.

Reduced Absorption of Fat

The absorption of fat is reduced with the daily consumption of green tea because of the polyphenols in green tea. The actions of glucose moving into fat cells are slowed. Green tea helps to ensnare the process of an increased amount of blood sugar after a meal. High insulin spikes are prevented and the amount of fat stored is reduced.

Low Appetite

A study on rats injected with green tea showed that rats lost over 20% of their original body weight. Their appetites became suppressed, and the rats consumed less food than normal, 60% less food daily. These results came from after seven days of a green tea diet. The regulation of blood sugar after a meal seemed to influence the rat’s diet and behavior.

Small Amount of Calories

As a morning beverage, green tea has a small amount of calories compared to most other beverages that Americans drink in the morning. The constant barrage of coffee as most peoples’ morning beverage results in a higher amount of daily calories compared to green tea as a beverage in the morning. A substitution of green tea for a super cup of joe will make a big difference in the size of your waistline.

But, all the weight loss benefits aside, some people may have a difficult journey drinking green tea a day. For the best results, around three to five cups of green tea are recommended everyday for the extra weight loss of the body. This may seem like a lot of green tea for some people, but most people get used to the idea and drink green tea whenever they are thirsty. Plus, the weight loss results seem to be worth it.
