Wondering what the shelf life is of that green tea you just bought?
Because of the way certain green teas ar processed, they do not have a particularly long shelf life, and in fact it is much less than other types of tea, like white or black teas. Of course, your tea’s freshness is a very important factor, as you do not want a tea which has spent long periods of time on the shelf, in transit, or in a warehouse.
To make it simple, just remember that old green tea does not stay green and does not taste good. The typical shelf life, from date of packaging, is about 6 months on unopened packages and immediately drops to 2-3 months once opened. This basically rules out the boxed teas that you can get at the grocery store and those increasingly popular “flavored” green teas.
