In a recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, components of green tea were found to actually protect bladder cells from damage in a culture. The reason this is possible is likely due to the incredible potency of the antioxidants found in green tea. It is these antioxidants that make green tea such a great remedy for assorted medical conditions and health issues. The catechins in green tea contain many antioxidative properties, and both normal and cancerous bladder cells were found to have been protected by the catechins found in abundance in green tea.
Future herbal supplements could very well provide more green tea-based drugs that could help fight bladder damage. The University of Pittsburgh study found that when normal and cancerous bladder cells were exposed to the EGCG of green tea, the cell lines were protected from hydrogen peroxide, which would normally kill bladder cells. EGCG can be carried in the body from a regular daily intake of green tea.
