The University Medical Center in Arizona conducting research to see if green tea extract could be used to clear the human papilloma virus. HPV as it is known, is the virus that can lead to cervical cancer in women. Previous studies indicate that green tea extract can clear up cervical lesions created by the virus. That breakthrough led scientists to test how effective green tea is on the HPV itself.

The researchers are looking specifically at Polyphenon E, a chemical present in green tea. Researchers plan to enroll 156 patients with HPV in a month long study known as a double-blind placebo controlled experiment. 50% of the women will receive the Polyphenon E and the other 50% will receive a placebo. No one will know who is receiving which treatment until the study is over. Over the four-month period of the study, test subjects will make six study visits to track the progress of the HPV.

This new study could lead to exciting news about the treatment of HPV with green tea. Yet another reason to introduce yourself to this incredible drink.
